2017 Cyberthreat Defense Report’ Indicates Enterprises Turning to Deception Technology as Next Evolution in Defense Against Advanced Cyber Attacks

Independent study conducted by CyberEdge Group and sponsored by illusive networks shows growing demand for deception based cybersecurity.

New York, NY and Tel Aviv, Israel – March 8, 2017 – illusive networks is today making available the fourth annual Cyberthreat Defense Report conducted by CyberEdge Group, a premier research and marketing firm serving the security industry’s top vendors. The independent report surveys perceptions and buying practices of Information Security decision makers and practitioners across the globe.  The Cyberthreat Defense Report provides the most geographically comprehensive view of IT security perceptions in our industry.

Amongst its findings, the report indicates growing adaption of deception based cybersecurity technology and distributed decoy systems. Forty-one percent of survey participants noted they planned to purchase this type of solution in 2017.

“Enterprises are realizing that increasingly sophisticated cyber threats require a new approach,” says Ofer Israeli, CEO, illusive networks. “The results of this survey indicate that deception based cybersecurity is a growing market that offers a way of tackling advanced attacks in a new and innovative manner.”

Out of 16 network security technologies within the survey, network deception technology is the “one most sought after in the coming year”, followed by next generation firewalls and user and entity behavior analytics.

Other key findings of the 2017 Cyberthreat Defense Report include:

– 79% of networks were breached, compared to 62% three years ago.

– Malware and spear-phishing are causing the most headaches.

– 89% of respondents are experiencing impact of the global shortage of available IT security talent. More than half are utilizing external vendors and contractors to fill in gaps.

– 75% say their organization has adequately invested in cyber insurance.

 

About the Cyberthreat Defense Report

In November 2016, 1,100 IT security decision makers and practitioners representing 19 industries and 15 countries across North America (U.S. and Canada), Europe (U.K., Germany, and France), Asia Pacific (Australia, China, Singapore, and Japan), Latin America (Brazil, Columbia, and Mexico), the Middle East (Saudi Arabia and Turkey), and South Africa participated in a 27-question online survey. Each participant is employed by a commercial or government entity with a minimum of 500 employees.
